Frequently
Asked Questions
Who is the pastor?
The founding pastor of New Day Church is Aaron Tomlinson. With his wife
Julie and a faithful group of co-workers they founded New Day Church in
March of 2002. Aaron holds degrees in Theology and Psychology and is
currently working to receive a Master’s in Counseling. He has been
ministering since the age of 19 and has traveled and ministered
extensively in the U.S. and abroad. He has served on the board of
directors for several ministries and is currently serving as a
consultant and overseer for New Day International Church in Almere,
Holland. Aaron is passionate about restoring people to their full
potential and ministers with great wisdom and insight into human
behavior.
Is New Day part of a
denomination?
New Day Church is an inter-denominational church which means that we
embrace and fellowship with churches from many denominations around the
world. However, NDC does not identify exclusively with any particular
group like the Baptist, Methodist, Assembly of God etc. Many of our
members come from various denominations themselves. New Day
Church
exists as its own non-profit organization while relating with and
receiving accountability from Higher Call Christian Church in Raleigh
North Carolina under the oversight of Dr. John Sanger PhD and Dr.
Maureen Sanger Dmin. For more information about Higher Call go to www.highercall.org.
NDC also has had the privilege of relating with leaders through out the
USA, Europe, Africa, & Asia. We are not affiliated with any
other New Day Church.
How can I get connected?
We realize this is a challenge for many people when first
coming into a new church regardless of the size of that particular
fellowship. The first step is attending Sunday services and our
Spiritual Growth Night on Wednesday evenings. We also have other events
and groups to help you connect with the
people and programs in our church. Every month a new calendar is posted
and is available at the information area in the rear of the church or
is available online.
This will tell you about most functions and when they occur. Please
check this calendar for times, dates, and locations.
How can I become a member?
Membership classes are available and held about twice a year. A person
becomes a member by attending one of these classes. They are held on
Saturdays and last about five hours with breaks and a lunch provided
at no charge.
Do you have a dress code?
Yes,
you have to be dressed. Some people come in suits and dresses
others came in sweats and a t-shirt. Please be tasteful and respectful
of the others in the congregation.
What kind of music do you
worship to?
We
sing to modern Christian songs that are geared towards the themes and
messages of our ministry. Songs by Rick Pino, Michael W.
Smith,
Newsboys, and others are performed by our excellent praise team.
What happens if I get
sick and want prayer?
We believe strongly in the healing power of prayer. It is offered
before and after every service by a trained and accountable healing
team member. You can also have one of our healing team members visit
you in the hospital or at home if you are too sick to travel.
How can I receive
counseling or healing prayer for my emotional needs?
New Day Church is fortunate in that we have some professional mental
health providers who offer their services to members. We also have
trained lay counselors and prayer ministers. Counseling from the pastor
is offered on a first come first served basis and is at his discretion.
There are times when you may be seeking pastoral counseling and be
referred to another member of the church because of limited time or
expertise. There are times you get more effective ministry from lay
members.
We also have a freedom prayer ministry to help you deal with past
issues that may be interfering with your life. All prayer and
counseling is strictly confidential within the confines of the law in
order to respect your privacy. You can call the church office Monday through Thursday between
1:00pm and 4:00pm to inquire about counseling or leave a message and it
will be returned as soon as possible.
What are the beliefs of the
church?
See the Philosophies of Ministry section link on the menu bar above (or click HERE).
Why do I see some people
fall when they receive prayer?
This is a phenomena common in many church traditions. Some call it
being “slain in the Spirit” or “resting in the Spirit.” Since we
believe that the Holy Spirit ministers very real and tangible power
through the laying on of hands it is not uncommon for there to be some
physical responses. This may include falling, shaking, emotional
releases, or other kinds of manifestations.
Are
you a
“Pentecostal” or “charismatic” church?
This is a question asked frequently
by visitors so we want to address that question up front. We have a tendency to
avoid labels because
often different people may have very different frames of reference when
using
them, therefore we do not call ourselves by either one.
However, we also recognize the need for
clarity about our understanding of various issues.
The term Pentecostal is generally a reference
to denominations or churches who can trace their roots to the
Pentecostal
revival in the early part of the last century, while charismatic is a
term used
of churches that began during what is called the charismatic renewal in
the
1970’s. We have
roots in neither. While
there are many ways to distinguish one
from the other, charismatic and Pentecostal churches both embrace the
ministry
gifts of the Holy Spirit and the phenomena of speaking in tongues. One of our goals as a
church is to remain as
faithful to Scripture, and the teachings of Jesus Christ as possible. Therefore, we fully
recognize the person of
the Holy Spirit as vital to the life of every believer and the
corporate
church. We believe
in His empowering
presence with and among us. We
also
believe in and practice the spiritual gifts mentioned in 1 Corinthians
12-14. This
includes, gifts of healings,
working of miracles, prophecy, tongues, and the interpretation of
tongues.
What about speaking in
tongues?
This might be the most controversial activity through out the body of
Christ in
the day we live. Tongues is clearly taught in Scripture (Acts 2; Acts
10; Acts
19; 1 Corinthians 12-14) therefore, we affirm the Scriptural use of the
gift.
While you may hear others speak in tongues or even receive the gift
yourself,
it is not a requirement. A person is saved through faith in the
finished work
of Jesus Christ and speaking in tongues is not necessary for
salvation nor a proof of
one’s spiritual
maturity.
What about miracles?
We
have seen and experienced many miracles at New Day. One of the things
that makes New Day special is the abundance of signs and wonders and
miracles that we have experienced. Many
people
have been healed of illnesses, injury, and other afflictions. Other
manifestations have appeared to members of our congregation. If you are
afraid of being in, feeling, or experiencing the presence of God, we
may not be the church for you.
Do you follow the Bible?
Yes, all our spiritual activities are based in scripture.
How can I be water
baptized?
Since our church is not equipped with a baptismal, we have special
baptism services through out the year. Please inquire with the pastor
if you or your child has a desire to be baptized with water.
How do I get on the healing team or serve in one of the other
ministries at New Day?
We have many different ministries not just healing team. You must
be attending faithfully and growing in your walk with God. You may be
asked to serve in one of the many smaller "helps" ministries in order
to demonstrate that you have the character and ability to serve before
moving on to one of the ministries that deal with spiritual issues.
There are other qualifications that are Biblically mandated in order to
serve on a ministry. More information can be obtained by contacting one
of the ministry leaders.
What are the different
ministries available at New Day?
Besides
the Healing Ministry, there is the Arts and Worship Ministry
(praise team), Freedom Ministry, Children's Ministry, Youth Ministry, Women's Ministry,
Men's Ministry, Media Ministry (techies), Greeters, and many others.
Am I safe at New Day?
The
safety of our members and their children is a top priority. We have an
excellent security team at New Day including many law enforcement
professionals.
Is child care available?
Child
care is available during services and some other events at New
Day. Please check prior to other events for availability.
Are children required to
go to children's church?
No,
children are welcome to stay with their parents during services and
parents are always welcome in the children's church as well.
